Your first step into the KawachiFujien Wisteria Garden is sure to steal your breath away. Selected as one of the most beautiful places in Japan, this private garden delights sightseers with colourful sights of drooping wisteria flowers.
Located in the wooded hills south of central Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, visitors are invited to stroll through the two 100 meter long tunnels, which are covered completely in 22 different species of wisteria flowers in shades ranging from white to dark purple. The best time to visit is in the spring from late April to early May when the flowers are in full bloom.
While the park is accessible to the public, be sure to book your reservation in advance to avoid disappointment especially during the peak season. It is most recommended to visit KawachiFujien Wisteria Garden with a rental car. Alternatively, you may take a bus ride from JR Yahata Station to Kamishigeta and walk the rest of the distance for 45-55 minutes.
